Our dogs aren’t just pets, but important members of the family and we like to take them everywhere with us. Recent articles have looked at suitable day trip destinations for your canine companions, but what about something closer to home? We recently heard about the Dog Friendly Pub Awards; founded by the guys at DogBuddy and with judges from the RSPCA and Your Dog magazine. Here we take a look at a few of the top dog friendly pubs that made last year’s shortlist that we’re definitely thinking of testing out!
Our Pick of the Top Rated Dog-Friendly Pubs
Popular amongst walkers, cyclists and dog owners alike. The Old Glen House pub is kown for its food, drink and welcoming attitude to your canine family members. You can be sure to dine well, drink well whilst your pooch is welcomed with treats and plenty of water. What more could you ask for than a relaxed afternoon in a country pub.
The Fox and Hounds in Devizes looks like something from a chocolate box, with its thatched roof and country-cottage carm. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are well considered here; staff will ask before offering treats and they will find you the perfect spot inside or out for you and your canine companions.
Sitting on the edge of Wimbledon Common The Hand is a truly Canine loving pub. With a country-pub feel, The Hand fully encourage the four legged family members of the family to visit, with complemenatary dog biscuits and even a chance to be crowned Dog of the Day!
With a following of a doggy customers, some of whom have been regulars since puppyhood, the Keel Row in Whitley Bay makes their canine clientele as comfortable as possible. They even have doggy drinking fountain crafted from a disused beer barrel.
And the National winner… The Fox and Hounds – South East
The winner of the 2017 awards was The Fix and Hounds in Theale. A 200 year old pu with a real country feel, the Fox and Houds strives to make it’s canine custmers as welcome as its human ones.
